Clyde Hamstreet
Mr. Hamstreet has been a prominent figure in the national turnaround industry for more than 20 years, with extensive experience in developing and leading complex turnarounds. Recipient of several national and regional awards, Mr. Hamstreet is well known in the industry for building consensus among diverse interest groups and creating innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems. He is committed to finding win-win solutions, frequently bringing employees, management, creditors and shareholders together to achieve successful turnarounds.
Mr. Hamstreet has expertise in assessing companies insightfully, developing strategic plans of attack, identifying and resolving the critical concerns of lenders through effective negotiation, and providing the necessary direction for management and employees to attain ambitious goals. His outstanding ability to understand complex business issues and translate them accurately for the benefit of non-experts is the foundation of his communication and leadership skills.
With an expertise in corporate finance, management, and governance, Mr. Hamstreet has held management positions in many corporations, including Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Executive Officer, President, Chief Financial Officer, and Director. He has successfully restructured large and mid-size companies and has led many initiatives to restore underperforming corporations to profitability, both in and out of Chapter 11. His experience includes the strategic repositioning of core operations, complex refinancing and investment arrangements, aggressive cost reductions, intensive management of working capital, and sales and divestitures. He recently completed a two-year engagement serving as the Chief Restructuring Officer of Sunwest Management, a national senior living provider whose restructured operations and balance sheet gave birth to sustainable earnings after years of losses, ultimately attracting an affiliate of the Blackstone Group to close a $1.25 billion transaction acquiring the operations.
Mr. Hamstreet has extensive experience in bankruptcy and other legal settings, serving as an expert witness in numerous federal cases and multi-million dollar arbitration matters. He has advised corporate boards on improving governance processes and creating more effective relations between board and management.
Mr. Hamstreet is an Oregon native with long-standing interest in contributing to the state's unique combination of livability and environmental stewardship, while offering sustainable economic opportunities and fiscal responsibility to its citizens. In furtherance of these goals Mr. Hamstreet has served on the Yaquina Bay Economic Development Foundation, the Lincoln County Planning task force, the Newport City Council, the Oregon Economic Development Commission, and the Oregon Land Use and Development Commission.
Mr. Hamstreet is a Certified Turnaround Professional and has served in leadership positions of the Northwest and National Turnaround Management Associations and the Association of Turnaround Professionals. He has been nominated for turnaround practitioner of the year three times, winning the award in 1994 and 2005. More recently, in 2009 the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association honored Mr. Hamstreet “for his dedication and outstanding professional achievements in business restructurings and turnaround” at its 10th Anniversary Cross-Border Conference.
Mr. Hamstreet originally founded Hamstreet & Company in Portland, Oregon, in 1988. In 1999, he joined forces with two other regional firms to form Glass & Associates, which he helped lead to national prominence. Five years later, Mr. Hamstreet left Glass and founded Hamstreet & Associates, with a focus on corporate restructuring and turnarounds. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Oregon State University.
